Vadit super Pozulum is a symphonic work for band in five movements, in which the historical evolution of Pozuelo de Alarcón, a suburb of Madrid, Spain is depicted, with the common thread of the melodies of the Quintettino Op. 30 no. 6 (G. 324) “The Night Music of the Streets of Madrid”, composed around 1780 by Luigi Boccherini, Italian composer at the service of the Spanish Court from 1761 to 1805. Mvt. 1 “Mansio Miaccum” – The legacy of Rome. Mvt 2. “Alfoz de la Villa and Court”. Mvt. 3. “In the footsteps of the railway”. Mvt. 4. “The Civil War – years of pain”. Mvt. 5. “The Day of Fiesta in Pozuelo”. It was commissioned by the Banda Sinfónica “La Lira de Pozuelo” (Madrid), Maximiliano Santos Ferrer, Conductor. The city Pozuelo de Alarcón is a suburb of Madrid with 85,000 inhabitants and three music societies. Juan Pedro Álvarez Martinez has been the President of the La Lira music society for many years. In the 2014 Certamen the band played with 140 band members, the maximum allowed in the competition. Of the 140 members, were many professional musicians, all from Pozuelo. Along with the usual band instrumentation are Flugelhorns, a cello section and a double bass section. Instrumentation is: Piccolo, 2 Flutes 2 Oboes, English Horn, 2 Bassoons, Contra Bassoon, Eb Clarinet, 3 Clarinets, Bass Clarinet,Contrabass Clarinet in Bb, Soprano Saxophone, 2 Alto Saxophones, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, 3 Trumpets, 4 Horns, 2 Trombones, Bass Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Timpani, Cello, Double Bass, Harp, Piano, Percussion (6 players – snare drum, bass drum, triangle, suspended cymbal, crash cymbals, water gong, wood block, tam tam, anvil, castinets, tenor drums (4), claves, bongos (2), wind chimes, shaker, orchestra bells, vibraphone, xylophone)
