The Broadway Limited was composed for the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Tubaphonium Ensemble in December 1994 at the request of Gary Bird. This fanfare in a jazz style was composed for the ensemble’s performance at the United States Army Band Tuba and Euphonium Conference in 1995, where it was premiered. The Broadway Limited is the name of the train that Dr. Bird rode on a trip from Pittsburgh to Chicago to attend the 1994 Mid West International Band and Orchestra Clinic. The instrumentation is 2 euphoniums and 2 tubas.
