Medium: Concert Band/ Wind Ensemble

Euskal Dantzak was composed for Banda Municipal de Bilbao and la Banda Municipal de Txistularis, both groups being part of Bilbao Musica. The Txistularis is a flute played in the Basque region on Spain as a folk instrument. It is a concerto grosso format where the 4 member Txistularis ensemble are the soloists. The second movement begins with traditional percussion instruments called the «Txalaparta». The recording is a video of the premiere performance which was on October 24, 2004 by the Municipal Band of Bilbao conducted by Rafael Sanz-Espert at the Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao, Spain. It is in two movements – I. Botxoa II. Biskalko Mendiak. It is scored for Piccolo, 2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, English Horn, 2 Bassoons, Eb Clarinet, 3 Clarinets, Bass Clarinet, 2 Alto Saxophones, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, 3 Trumpets in Bb, 2 Flugelhorns, 4 Horns in F, 3 Trombones, 2 Euphoniums, Tuba, Solo Tuba, Timpani, Percussion (4 players) – Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Suspended Cymbal, Crash Cymbals, Orchestra Bells, Gong, Vibraphone, Xylophone, 2 Solo Txalapartas 2 Solo Tsistuas, Solo Silbote, Sola Tabor, Electric Guitar, Piano, Cello, Double-bass.
