Pershing was commissioned by the U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own”, Col. Gary Lamb, Commander in 2001 to Premiered for the 80th Anniversary Concert of the Band in 2002. It is in Sonata form. Piece won several awards including First Prize in the first WASBE composition contest in 2017. It has been performed over 100 times around the world. It is scored for Piccolo, 2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, English Horn, 2 Bassoons, Eb Clarinet (optional), 3 Clarinets, Bass Clarinet, Eb Contralto Clarinet (optional), 2 Alto Saxophones, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, 3 Cornets, 2 Trumpets in Bb, 4 Horns in F, 2 Trombones, Bass Trombone, 2 Euphoniums, Tuba, Timpani, Percussion (4 players) – Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Suspended Cymbal, 3 Tenor Drums, Claves, Maracas, Orchestra Bells, Vibraphone, Xylophone, Harp and Double-bass.
