Vertigo – for Ten Trombones

Medium: Chamber Music

Vertigo – for Ten Trombones was composed in 1981. It includes some graphic notion and other modern techniques such as mouthpiece pops, 1/4 tone bends, vocalizations through the instrument mouthpiece buzzing and position change effects. Each of the ten players has his/her own 13 – 18 note theme which segments are repeated throughout the piece. These segments are designed to make the piece very virtuosic at times, but in reality makes the piece fairly easy to perform. The instrumentation is 10 trombones with trombone 9 and 10 best played on bass trombone. Writing notes are not in extreme range high or low.
