An Early Evening Walk is the third movement of the symphony “A Day in Valencia” which was commissioned and composed for the Primitiva de Lliria in 2011 of Valencia, Spain. In 2023 it was rescored for full orchestra and recorded by the London Symphony on February 24, 2024 at St. Luke’s on Old Street, London, England, conducted by Rafael Sanz-Espert. It is is an aria for solo tuba and a tribute to the late tubist Harvey Phillips. Often thought of as the greatest tubist of the Twentieth Century, he would often play his favorite chorale by J. S. Bach “Come Sweet Death”. A short excerpt of this chorale is presented before the final phrases of the aria, accompanied by the harp and cello.
